This a view of the church of San Giorgio Maggiore from the Riva degli Schiavoni, one of the loveliest, albeit often overcrowded, waterfront promenades along the Grand Canal in Venice. The Riva Degli Schiavoni commences outside the Doges Palace and ends near the Arsenal.
To the south of the Riva degli Schiavoni, across the Grand Canal, is located the islet of San Giorgio Maggiore. The island has recently become renowned as a cultural center and is the site of many concerts and recitals.
